Traits are passive abilities acquired by the player over the course of playing the game. Besides weapons and armor used by the player, Traits are the most important part of your arsenal, as they give very strong stat, damage, and defensive buffs. Traits are comparable to level systems in other games, although in Remnant, every Trait, except for Vigor and Endurance, must be found by the player. The ways of finding Traits can range from killing a boss, walking into a certain area, interacting with teammates, upgrading Weapons, and many more.
To find out how to acquire a certain Trait, go to their personal wiki page. (You can also click on a Trait's name in this page.)
Useful Information
- Your Trait level has a current maximum of 800. This can change with new updates to the game, as before the Swamps of Corsus DLC was released, the Trait level maximum was 640.
- There are currently 40 Traits. This can change with new updates to the game, as before the Swamps of Corsus DLC was released, there was only 32 Traits.
- Traits have a maximum level of 20.
- Once a Trait is unlocked, it can not be unlocked again, and is permanently unlocked on your character.
- You cannot turn Traits off. You can however reset them to level 0 and choose not to level them, but every time you were to do this, you would have to reset all of your Traits, and then level up the ones you want to use each time.
- You can reset Trait points by using an Orb of Undoing. Orb of Undoing can be acquired from killing the Nightmare, or by purchasing it from Reggie for 2,500 Scrap.
- Traits start at level 1 when first discovered, but when you use an Orb of Undoing, they reset to level 0.
- When you reach the maximum Trait level (currently 800), you will still gain Trait points and still level up, these Trait points can be used later when/if more Traits are released.
How to gain Trait points
- Leveling up awards you with 1 Trait point.
- Collecting Tomes of Knowledge awards you with 1 Trait point.
- To level up, you must gain experience from killing enemies, bosses, and completing quests.
